Hope you have a nice weekend, this is how I spend my Sunday mornings, decorate my nails with some nail art, some are a hit and miss, but some I like. Very quick to do, no thought really as to where to place the lines.

Rihanna in her recent video of Rock Star has something like this. Cool!

These are my favorite looks from the red carpet, I chose some of the dresses for the color rather than fabulousness, Zoe Saldana's Givenchy gown, the color is amazing but the dress is confused, starts out simple on the top and ends up with overdosed frill at the bottom. It looks as if the frilly part was an afterthought. Vera Farmiga's Marchesa gown, again I love the color, the oversized frill not so much. Sandra Bullock's and Charlize Theron's makeup looked simply stunning with the bold statement lips. Sandra Bullock wore the new Chanel Coco lipstick in Paris an amazing vibrant fuchsia color. I think her makeup was beyond fabulous. On the nail polish front, I couldn't see any outstanding colors worn by anyone, most of the nails were kept neutral except Miley's, she wore a dark red vampy color.

"A High Court judge has reserved his decision in a case involving plagiarism allegations against a former student at Victoria University's design school.

The plagiarism findings against Brittany Bell, upheld by the university's Disciplinary Appeals Committee, prevented her from graduating.

Ms Bell admitted that her work was influenced by other designers, but said she acknowledged those designers in the appendix and bibliography attached to her project.

However, a lawyer for Victoria University told the High Court in Wellington on Tuesday there were no such references on a series of panels she produced as part of her project.

The court was told senior students at the university are reminded several times during their course that the work of others is to be referenced.

I do know exactly where my ideas come from, if it wasn't mine then credit is due.

Isn't she cute? We really had our moment, she was looking at me and I was looking back through the camera. She was injured from a boat's propeller and has been recovering at the Loggerhead Marine Life Center in Juno Beach, Florida.

We stayed at the Marriott Singer Island Beach Resort, and I can honestly say I have never been so impressed with a hotel before. The "room" was really an apartment, two large bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen, washer + Dryer, 3 flat screens for entertainment. The water was absolutely clear and warm, the artificial coral reef and sunken boats are perfect for snorkeling or scuba diving if you are brave enough, (I just stick to snorkeling myself). There was plenty of fish, manta ray, barracuda and even lobster, which my hubby barely managed to avoid stepping on. All this less then 100 yards or 50 meters from the beach directly in front of the hotel! The only thing I did not like, was the vallet parking, as a European I am not used to someone else getting my car for me all the time.

We were originally planning to be in Miami, I booked a condo back in March paid the deposit and 2 months later got a call that "sorry I got longer staying tenants". Of course the flight was already booked the car hired, I scrambled to find something quick, tried the Fontainebleau condo tower next, couldn't believe our luck when an email confirmed that a double bedroom suit was available, "please send a copy of your credit card both the front- and back-side for confirmation". Which we did and the next day we got an email stating that the afore mentioned room was no longer available. I was beyond pissed, cancelled the credit card and at this stage I was convinced we would have to stay in some god awful last minute hotel. A good friend of ours then asked - "Why do you even have to go to Miami? Why don't you try Palm Beach Instead?" I am so glad we did!

Saw many turtle tracks on the beach almost every day, which later got marked as nests, but did not see any marked nests with hatching date near today's date. Turtle eggs incubate for two months and hatching takes place during the night when the sand is cool. I could tell you which nest will hatch on the 28th of September, but not which nest will hatch now. Today was the first cool and wet day of our vacation, this must have been the reason why, we were lucky enough to see the cutest thing on the planet make it out of the nest and into the sea during daylight.

I love lavenders, it turns out so do bees! They are absolutely enthralled with the fragrant purple plant. There are hundreds of bees on just 4 plants that are currently blooming, it really does sound like a bee hive! Perfect opportunity for macro bug shots! The challenge, (other than the scorching sun for me, as it took a while to take a sufficient number of images), is the bee's speed. They move so fast, plus the many stems of flowers gently swaying in the slight breeze meant that the camera just didn't know where to focus. I took a lot of photos and a few turned out really nice.

I took these shots with a not very good lens, that comes in a kit with the Nikon D90. The 18 - 105 mm VR 3.5 -5.6 is one of the cheapest lenses available from Nikon. This is an average lens with no macro capability. Of course, the images could be closer and sharper, but I like very much how they turned out.

Deborah Lippmann does not ship outside the US, Nordstrom where these two colors are exclusive, does, but not nail polish. I also have an US Unlocked account, but guess what? no nail polish shipping!!! I somehow doubt, that they will still be there, when I get there physically in a few week's time. I hate sell outs, but I can understand. Essie Weingarten has been running her business for more than 28 years. It is probably time to take a well earned break.

Nail Polish is big business, essie's estimated annual turnover was 150 million USD, this sum however represented the end market revenues. Essie herself sold to distributors who in turn sold to salons and customers. Her actual wholesales for the last year were 28 million. Well, cut out the middlemen!!

My estimated guess of selling her company to L'Oreal is 75 million USD.

I am absolutely amazed, how many perfumes are available in the cosmetic section of stores. Who buys them? Do you? I have stopped buying perfume a few years ago, when I found the "One". Samples get thrown at you from left and right these days, mine go straight to the bin. Unfortunately my husband is allergic so I am limited to wear my favorite fragrance when he is not around. Despite not being really into perfume anymore, for some reason I felt compelled to try NY by SJP. It is the color, the dress and the colorful design of the bottle that really appeal to me, the fragrance did not really grab me, I guess I expected something Pink!

The World is not enough a.k.a. Orbis Non Sufficit from Rescue Beauty Lounge is a very special nail polish in every sense. Why? The color along with two others, was created by a top blogger in the nail polish world, The polish addict. This is something dreams are made of, imagine you start a blog and the blog will be so well known that it will be picked up by a really cool brand and you are asked to create your very own color! When I first saw the color I thought what on earth is this, I am ready to admit that I did not like it at all, but after wearing it for 2 days, I changed my mind and I may (or not) understand why Stephanie created this particular color.

The color is an army camouflage color, or if you are familiar with cars this is the color of the original, now vintage, classic Land Rover, I passed one yesterday and I just thought - Gotcha! This car is an absolute cult classic, the Queen drives this one instead of the "Posh Chelsea Tractor" or Range Rover. O.K. so what? you may wonder, as I was out and about all day yesterday and today I noticed that a lot of people looked at my nails, maybe not because they never saw such a beautiful color before, but definitely because they have never seen this color on nails before! This is a very unusual and outstanding color. This is one coat only it is not perfectly smooth but I wanted to show you how opaque and saturated RBL is. The second coat would have made it more smooth and glossy.

Zippered nail art using RMK silver and a very fine nail art brush. Zippered designs are everywhere, on shoes, boots and bags. Take a look at the latest shoe fashion from Louboutin and Lanvin. Now they are on nails too! The base color is LaRic No 39. I seem to have lost the products photo, sorry about that. Any silver nail polish will do, I tried to apply the silver lightly but failed, delicate it is not. I asked my girls "what do you think this is?" and they said - "looks kind of like zips or fish bones"!

Chanel Gondola new fall color

A sparkly dark red with fine glitter. This is a color I have already, O.K. not quite, but Red Dream is very very similar to this color, Gondola is more maroon, Red Dream is more red but the glitter is exactly the same which in turn makes the two colors look the same. I took a photo of both colors below, the difference is very slight. The formula on this one is too thick, I found it very hard to apply a thin coat.

Chanel marketing, I first saw the advert for this new fall color in July on the Chanel US website only, there was no advertising on the European websites all through August, yet the colors are already on the website and in the shops. There is no promotion, not even what is new, the colors just "appear" in the shops.

Nail Art this week - Wild Thing you make my heart sink

Wanted to do something else with these two colors, but ended up with this "claw marks" design, simply because this is one of the easiest thing to do with a pointed round brush. This brush is a nail art brush, very thin. For the black marks I used nail polish instead of acrylic because, the color needs to flow and acrylic when it is diluted to flowing consistency simply doesn't cover the nail. Practicing the brush strokes before is a good idea, to see how the brush will unload the color. I use a piece of aluminum foil for the black, a few drops at a time because it dries quickly and add some more later as needed. Load the brush thoroughly from tip to base soaking it well in the black polish. Steady both arms and go very slowly. As the brush is fully loaded it holds more color at the tip, this will give you the slightly thicker beginning. Begin with the thick end and as you pull the brush across the nails slightly lift it or apply less pressure, this will give the thinner end. S-he is my current favorite brand, I love the quality the coverage and the price. Essence is one of the blackest polishes I have, also a cheap but very good quality brand.

Chanel Dragon with Seche Vite ✭✭✭✭

Chanel Test

In the last few weeks I have been testing different top coats with a handful of recent Chanel colors and the Chanel base coat to see which combination would last.

If I had to choose only one red nail polish, this would be it. The color is of Chinese lacquer, a perfectly balanced red not too cool not too warm in tone. As soon as I tried it in the shop I overcame with the sudden desire to possess this color. I have to confess I tried it because of the name, not so much how the color looked in the bottle. Painted one stripe down the middle of one nail and knew that I must have this before it is gone. It is the most perfect red I have ever seen. A classic.

Fully loaded, one coat and it was completely opaque, just added on a second coat out of habit. Curiously the color did not change, it did not get darker or deeper with the second application. Chanel Dragon is a creme, there is no glitter there is no shimmer. It may not be the most beautiful red nail varnish compared with the glittering alternatives out there, but to me this is the perfect classic red.

This week's test is with Seche Vite. I took the first picture on day 3 and as you can see there was not much tip wear due to the technique called wrapping, painting the color and the top coat over and under the nail. Chipping on day 4 on one nail, the others are beginning to show tip wear only. I feel, looking at my nails, how perfect they still are on day 4, that maybe if I did a better job with wrapping it would hold even longer than 4 days. Very impressed, this color in particular is holding up better than I expected!

Konad this week

Rhapsody in Grey

My little hand model refused to wear this pink polish so Konad on me this week. My very first attempt at funky french plus konad. I read in Scrangie's blog that the nail guides work best if you stick them on the skin first to remove some glue before positioning them for french tips, otherwise they may pull the base color off. This is wonderful advice, thank you Scrangie! I forgot to pre-stick one guide, it did not take the polish off but left glue on the nail. RMK true pink is incredibly full of pigment almost a 1 coater, I say almost because I only went for a second coat to even out some nails, otherwise one coat! Does dry shiny not matte, still looks so bright that I categorize it as a neon. Illamasqua DWS is a pigeon (sorry about that) grey, this polish is also very pigmented like RMK and as a bonus works well with Konad, easy to use and dries faster than the konad special polish. This was the very first time that I enjoyed konading because there was no mess no color bleeding. I waited 1 hour for the RMK to dry before attempting the stickers for the french tip and stamping. Seche Vite, nice thick coat to add incredible shine and hide the little ridge of the french tips.

These two are exact matches, the only difference between them is that essie is thicker (2 coats were used in this comparison), RBL Atame came out slightly lighter, 3 coats would give the same opacity as essie wicked. Essie on index and ring finger, RBL Atame on middle and pinkie.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Smitten

This is a nice powder pink more on the flesh colored side, it was opaque in two coats a little streaky over Barielle camouflage. Excuse the marker on the index finger, the fiberglass repair on the middle finger and the bubbles on the pinkie. I like this color very much because it is an understated pink yet funky. This week I am trying it out with my magic formula of nail polish longevity, the Barielle base and top coat combo, to see if RBL will last longer than the four days previously. I am sorry to report that it chipped on day 3.

Here it is outside in the sunshine with OPi Designer series Chiffon (1 coat) it is slightly holographic just with one coat. They look amazing together in my humble opinion! Opi DS Chiffon is a very sheer holographic polish with the same pink undertone as RBL Smitten. Chipping is visible on the middle finger also have bigger chipping on the right thumb. I love this combination so much that chipping or not I keep it a little longer.

Chanel and Nfu-Oh No. 51

This is such a dark color that the purple is completely lost, to me it looks dark aubergine, I asked my husband what color is this, he replied "black". Well not quite, but very close to being black. Applied very easily, overall I am happy with the Chanel formula, this week I used different base and top coats to see if the lasting result would differ, and it did,, chipping on day 5. The picture below was taken on day 3.

On day 3 I was feeling a bit bored with the color, added 2 coats of Nfu-Oh #51 which is a purple base with dark pink microglitter and gold foil, the base is leaning more to blue. The end result was not as expected, the base purple is much lighter than Chanel Vendetta it did not show at all. The only color that can be seen is the gold foil and the reddish microglitter which looks rusty, bronzy brown over the dark purple base.

Here is Nfu-Oh on it's own, this is a glorious color, the picture below is not doing justice to the real thing. Surprisingly purple with reddish, dark pink microglitter and gold foil that in indoor daylight flashes red as well, in the sun it is gold. My friend visited us over the weekend and we decided that from all the polishes in my collection this is perhaps the most spectacular one. She was delighted with the result and was hoping that the manicure would last until Monday to show off in the office. The consistency is a little on the thin side, below we used 3 coats and probably could have used another two to make the color more intense. Unfortunately the pink-red glitter is not showing very much.

Update: my friend sent me this picture the polish is still on one week later, slight chipping and tip wear.

Definition of brittle, took the nail polish off and left the nails naked for one day, as I was reorganizing my drawers, broke four nails within the hour, not just tearing the free edge more like a thin plastic breaking off in chunks and flying through the air. There was nothing to be rescued my nails looked like a leaf freshly ravaged by a caterpillar. I have started using Nail Tek III Hydration Therapy treatment under the base coat to see if the situation improves.

Creative Nail Design Cuticle Eraser, Creative Nail Design Solar Oil, CND Spa Manicure Almond Hydrating Lotion

CND all three products are fabulous, the solar oil and the hydrating lotion have a very intense almond scent, I personally love this, but for the non marzipan eater this would be too much. Moisturizing properties are good but my hands are in good condition, the lotion did not do that much for my friend's husband, whose hands were extremely dry. Love the easy application, keep this one by the sink.
